Just visited Hobby Lobby a couple of days ago. Apparently, they had sale on scrapbook materials, from stickers, papers, tools and a whole lot more. Even if you’re not a scrapbooker, a visit to scrapbook aisle in craft store somewhere in city can simply be fun. When you see the design of the paper, you’ll know what I mean. Nowhere else could you find papers in big variety of design. Simple, patterned, embossed, beautiful, sweet, funky, retro, almost just about every style. I just couldn’t get enough of. And in the end, I ended up buying some, because I think they gave me more creative ideas in the moment I saw them, so I might need them eventually.

I know that paper is basically the main ingredient to create a scrapbook page. So you might think that inevitably you always need them and investing on buying papers is wise. But wiser thing is, I bought a book of 180 pages scrapbook paper for only $9.99. The original price is $19.99 and because it was on sale, I got it half price. After doing the math, I paid only around 10 cents per page. And now, I am inundated with ideas and economically satisfied.

Here is my suggestion, be wise on buying materials, especially when you feel the urge to be creative but in the same time you are faced with tight budget. In fact, here you need to be creative in order to keep on doing creative things. Oh no, what am I bubbling about now? Simply put, always keep an eye on sale events going on in craft stores in the city and buy stacks of paper instead of individual paper (unless you are in a big project and the only paper that matches your idea is the individual one). You won’t regret spending too much money for only paper and you’ll get your ideas expand to things possibly created from them

Why Scrapbooking? I can say all the right reasons someone might like scrapbooking but my one and only reason. I only pick it out because I didn’t have other things to do here in US. As it turned out, this seemed to be the simplest craft people would be able to create. To some degree, that is true depends on how far you want to explore the scrapbooking methods and techniques.

For a beginner scrapbooking (actually there’s no such thing like beginner scrapbooker, as soon as you grab some basic scrapbooking materials, you can create any page for your photos), should I make some suggestions, scrapbook kit is the best option. If you are lucky enough, you may find some relatively cheap scrapbook kit (under $14.99) at most stores. Only from one package you have all the basic materials needed to create fun pages. The basic are : pattern scissors, cutter, scrapbook papers, embellishments (stickers, ribbons, die cuts, edges,etc.). One thing you should keep in mind is that scrapbook materials must be made acid-free and lignin-free for purpose of preservation. When you put your pictures as scrapbook page, not only do you want it to be beautiful but also as a records of things worth remembering. In order that the page remains undamaged as time passes by, you should take early precautions starting from what materials the page is built from. Acid-free/lignin-free/photo-safe materials increase the resistance of material from deterioration so that it prevent the color from fading.

As the kickoff of my scrapbook activity, I chose my wedding as theme of my first scrapbook page. So why don’t you show me yours?
